Game Theory

The realities of life can never be played out in a game. “The Supremacy” simulation tries to recreate the actual world, but cannot address all aspects of the real world accurately. First, countries are unique spheres of their own with their own situations and opinionated people. Army strategy is not laid out in the open for all countries to see. Though the game comes close to adequately addressing the economy issues it does not address that countries buy and sell from other countries and not to a world market where anyone can buy it. Finally, the most real aspect of the game itself was the actions and reactions of the players.

Each nation is made up of unique beliefs and cultures. These beliefs are the driving force of the government and how they make their decisions. In every democracy the people and their opinions are the driving force because the have the power to vote out the leaders of their country. A nation that has all the might and the money in the world cannot fight a war if the people will not commit to it and believe that it is the right course of action. This was the case for the United States in the Vietnam War. No President served more than one term in the span of Vietnam War because the people were

With all these aspects in mind the game did take on some real life traits. First, everyone was fighting for their country and trying to keep it one step ahead of everyone else. Secondly, friends from different groups would make alliances based on the trust that is already there with each other. Thirdly, everything seemed to be action and reaction. One country started to build up its army and in return everyone else did to because they were fearful of being run over. The games name, “Supremacy”, sums up what the game is all about and that is conquering the world by any means necessary. Everyone thought that that would be militarily. So with all the alliances countries started attacking each other. It never occurred to anyone that in the end it would be monetary value of each country that would determine the “winner.” The real course for victory was to build up your economy and develop nuclear arms and l-stars. Fear of use would keep your enemies at bay as in the case of the cold war. In the end, class time for the game ended and thoughts of what would have happened had we been given a couple more days enters into mind. Russia and Europe were ready to roll over China and then the rest of the world, but the United States, South America, and Africa were quickly tightening the noose around the Russian-European alliance. The only thing that would not be debatable is that China was going to be nonexistent.

This should especially work for navies because it’s hard to locate ships out in the middle of the ocean unless you know where to look for them at. An amphibious assault was impossible in the game because the country would see it coming with enough moves left to build up forces of the coastal areas. Navies should be hidden until ships enter the same see at which point both sides ships become visible to each other and everyone else because they are in range of seeing each other.

The number of armies that some countries amassed was really ludicrous. The only way that countries amass armies like the one’s amassed in a time of piece is to invade another country. Also, to create this size of an army you would have to draft or you might not even have enough able-bodied men in your country to form a huge army. Also the training of armies in every country is different. For instance the tra
