The first issue explained in Jamison’s book was why people decide to commit suicide in the first place. In my mind the most significant reply explained by Jamison was depression. So many people fall into this state of mind because of broken or difficult relationships, financial problems and for college students, the feeling of failure and loss (Jamison 299). The last part of Jamison’s book dealt with how to help people who have either tried committing suicide or had a loved one die from it. I found this part of the book very informative and necessary so that people would have an idea on how to deal with such an unfortunate experience if it ever came up in their lives. I was surprised to find that what we have learned in class is almost exactly the same ideas Jamison gives in her book. The main thing to do when someone or yourself is experiencing grief is to just talk about what you are feeling. Even sitting there comforting and listening to the person can help immensely. Communication is key when getting through a situation like this.

Night Falls Fast has been a real eye opener to me. The pain that people go through when dealing with this illness is more extreme then I could have ever imagined. Most of the people that contemplate suicide do not just decide one day to end it all right then and there. The majority of the time people deal with this illness on a daily basis for years, and it eventually just catches up with them overtime.
