The message Eminem is trying to convey in this music video is how far an enraged and crazy fan may go to be noticed by their idol. Being idolized by many, Eminem receives thousands of letters from fans hoping to hear back from him. Eminem, by not being able to send his letter promptly, is haunted by the shock of realizing that Stan is the disturbed man who killed himself and his pregnant wife, the same man Eminem was hoping Stan would not become. His response letter to Stan says, “I’m glad that I inspire you, but Stan why are you so mad? Try to understand that I do want you as a fan, I just don’t want you to do something crazy man.” Clearly, the message Eminem is trying to convey is that he loves his fans, but just because his lyrics are crazy does not mean that his fans should be too. Critics of Eminem believe that he is a disturbed and perverted rapper and his lyrics are unsuitable for society. Nevertheless, Eminem tries to get a message to his fans in this music video, by showing them the horrors of Stan, a crazy enraged fanatic, who takes Eminem too seriously and goes to drastic measures just to be noticed.
