We had just crossed the bridge at my friend Garrett’s grandparent’s ranch. It is located at the base of Diamond Mountain, it is called Brush Creek Ranch. We started driving on the dirt road that went around one of their grazing fields and all of a sudden there were six fox standing on top of their den.
We shut off the truck and grabbed our rifles, we each picked out the one that we wanted to shoot and when the time was right we both fired. Two of the six fox dropped like leaves falling out of a tree. We hopped back into the truck with adrenalin running through our blood; we raced down towards the den.
Garrett and I started to walk towards the den where our foxes lay. When we neared the den Garrett had the craziest idea to dig up the foxes with his grandpa’s backhoe. No matter what I said he wasn’t going to change his mind. He handed me a twenty- two pistol and told me to stay by the den and make sure that the fox wouldn’t leave. Garrett started to walk back to the truck to get the backhoe and then he heard a gun shot. He looked around like I was shooting at a fox or something like that but all I could tell him is that I shot my self, I shot my self! He didn’t believe me, but when I dropped his dads pis
tol on the ground he new that I was serious. I pulled my pant leg up as far as I could and all I could see was one hole. I was in total shock but all I could think of is that I have to get to the hospital. I hobbled back to the truck and we headed for town.
They hauled me back to the emergency room and I asked the nurses again if I could have some pain medication, and then the doctor walked in and asked if the pain medication helped the pain and I told him that the nurses hadn’t given me any yet and I have never seen anybody so surprised in my life. That nurse looked at me like I was a little tattletale. After I got my pain medication he decided that it was ok for me to go home.
The next few days the pain wasn’t so bad. My leg got better every day. I went back in for my check up and the doctor told me that he didn’t want me to walk or put any pressure on my leg for about two weeks, so of course I went home and tried walking with crutches. After about a week I had that mastered.
