Today Mass and Media affects most of us than it ever did before. It doesnt only effect the children, but it also leaves a great impression on the adults. Today the mass and media has been a great source of learning as to whats in style and fashion, how to decorate our homes, what detergent to use for the dishes, what to feed the children, what car to buy and what not. Personally i get very toned into buying the things that i watch on the commercials for example the other day i just bought Crest whitening strips for almost a hundred dollas just because i saw it on the television. Today we have thousands of women magazines out, which are read by all ages of women. These magazines provide us with lots of information. It provides as information from picking a guy to having an amazing sexual life, from breaking up with a guy and flirting. In all these magazines there’s one thing that’s very common, which is thin, blonde, beautiful, sexy women. All these magazines have a typical image of what a women should look like. In my essay I will be focusing on two of the magazines, one being my favorite Cosmopolitan and the other Glow. In this essay i will show how the body and image of women have been portrayed in these magazines and how se
The other thing i notice in these magazines was that they only showed people who had a certain cass. All these people looked rich to me. I mean i don’t on daily bases wear clothes like the people in the magazine or can even effort to buy even one whole outfit as the women from these magazines. Actually when i look around i don’t see any one dressing like the women from the magazine. I am sure even though we all The other issue that i noticed with both thee magazines was th there was hardly any women of colour posing for such advertisements. We know that our society even though consists of many coloured people, still poses for mainly white people. Mot of the girls in these magazines were white and blonde. This was kind of a shocking for me. I have been aware that the television castes for ostly white people but i wasnt quite sure about the magazines. In both the magazines combined there were only eleven black people counting Jennifer Lopez three times and Lucy Liu once. There was no Oriental women, no Indian Women or Arab women. Does this mean that they are not catering to women of color or does it mean that women of olour are not beautiful enough to model for these magazines. We live in a multicultured place and so we need to envolve every one in every thing. Are we only going for one look? Arnt these magazines givng a clear message that white is beautiful and black or colour is not, that white is the majority and black or color is not. Even though when you go to most parts of Toronto you will see mostly colored people around more tan white people. I still don’t understand that why todays most educated and talented people who work with the magazine industry make the same old mistake of discrimination which our fore fathers made years ago. I will first start by talking about the body image of the women in these two or lets say in all magazine. All women in these magazines have an ideal look which is tall, skinny, slimming and sexy. None of these women are over weight or even the weight that they should be. It is very normal for a women to be on a diet now a days. Every women wants to look like the models we see in these magazines. Both cosmopolitan and the Glow has the same ideal weight for women. In the eyes of our society women x, race and class are interconnected in these magazines.
