J. K. Rowling was born on July 31, 1965 in chipping Sodbury, near Bristol, in southern England. Her name is Joanne Rowling and the K. came form the name Kathleen. Since she was an author of a book her publishers wanted initials for her name instead of just J. Rowling, so she came up with Kathleen who was Rowling’s favorite grandmother therefore it gave her the official name of Joanne Kathleen Rowling. A.K.A. J.K. Rowling. Rowling has a younger sister by the name of Dianne Rowling. Both Rowling’s came up with nicknames which they preferred to be called by. Joanne Rowling wanted to be called Jo and Dianne Rowling wanted to be called Di. On December 26, 2001 “Boxing Day,” Joanne Rowling married Dr. Neil Murry in a private ceremony attended by close friends and family members at their new home in Scotland. Rowling had also faced a court battle in which she was accused of stealing the Harry Potter book idea. But Rowling won all her cases keeping her reputation. Even though Rowling had become one of the richest women in Britain she contributes her earnings to Comic Relief and Rowling also contributes her earning to fund projects to the poorest parts of Africa and the poorest countries in the world that are in need of aid. Rowling has experienced a dreadful life yet she never gave up on her dreams. Now Rowling is famous all around by her fantasy that we all know the name by, Harry Potter.

Rowling attended Exeter University, studying French and graduated in 1987. Thereafter Rowling worked for a short time as a research assistant for Amnesty International. While she continued her craze in writing by writing during her lunch and break hours. Rowling also worked on a book what she called, “The Worst Secretary Ever” and made a collection of her own adult fiction novels. As early as 1983, Rowling had been busy collecting old English words and names of maps and towns of England. In 1990 Rowling was determined to write a book using these words about an orphaned boy
