The topic of my ISearch paper is what I want to major in when I go to college. I know that I want to pursue a career in computer science but there are so many areas that I do not know exactly what I want to concentrate on. Some of the areas I can explore are Programming, Networking, IT (Information Technology) Professional services and modeling. I already know a great deal about networking and find that it’s not too hard to do. I have taken Cisco networking courses through the high school and have networked a couple of businesses and was well paid for the job. Network administrators make a great deal of money and don’t do too much work for the amount they get paid. Unfortunately they are sometimes required to do tasks not included in their normal job responsibilities. Many people think that a network administrator is also responsible for repairing whatever is wrong with the computer itself rather than focusing on the network. At times this is okay but at other times it’s not. Also if something does go wrong with the network or a hacker gets through everyone blames the network administrator for not doing his job properly. Becoming an IT professional is most likely what I will major in. W
I believe that the research that I did while preparing this paper truly helped me realize the direction I want my studies in computer science to take. It has been a very valuable project. While going through the searching process I found out several things. hat their job entails after getting hired by a company is to fix errors that occur with people’s computers and help teach employees about computers. ITs are some of the most abused employees in a company because people often overload their computers and it is the responsibility of the IT to come and fix them and make sure that the problem does not happen again. They are also required to back up important information in order to protect it from a system failure or some other catastrophic incident. I have rented myself out as an IT professional twice, both times for $15 an hour, which is a very reasonable rate. IT professionals are also required to purchase systems and keep them running. In this capacity I am not sure whether or not I will make my own computers, which I excel in, or whether I will purchase them from a company. I chose to interview Don Campbell of CampbellNet Solutions. I started the interview out by telling him about myself and the project that I am working on. Don has been in the computer industry for over twenty seven years and just recently started up his own network consulting, value adder, and reselling company. He worked as a programmer for Rochester Telephone Company for over ten years and then was downsized and that’s when he started his company.
