Memory

Everyone has a certain moment or day that they can recall more often than any other. There's always a specific moment or a special day that we keep with us for the duration of our journey. These memories we sometimes play in our heads when boredom lingers about the mind. But overall, there is a limited number of memories that we can recall as if it had happened yesterday. A memory so vivid and so strong that we can even describe the sensations we were feeling in that moment. As for me, one of my most memorable moments was a day at the beach.
             .
I can remember it as if it were yesterday.Closing my eyes, I can live that moment again. It was a chilly, sunny day. The sun was high up in the sky and a few clouds lingered here and there, dancing ever so slightly to the rhythm of the wind. A gentle breeze was playing across my face, blowing its way through my hair, caressing the curves of my cheeks. I'm standing at the very edge of the jetty. Looking out at the sea, I could see for miles and miles in every direction. There seemed to be no end to the vastness of the sea. I could barely make out the meeting of the sky and the water. The salty seawater sprayed my face with droplets of tangy candy. Bittersweet, just like candy, I thought to myself. The waves were crashing up against the jetty with relentless, vivacious ferocity. The waves are so beautiful yet scary at the same time, I pondered. As I stood there, I noticed the individual movement of each wave. For a second I was completely mesmerized by the landscape. Seagulls were flying overhead and ships and boats were zooming by. Oh, if I could fly like the birds could then I'd never have worries again, I said to myself. I was actually at peace with myself and all my worries just seemed to crash and burn with every retreat of the waves. The waves seemed to be carrying some secret message that perhaps only itself could hear. It was total bliss. I would have stood there longer if I didn't have a place to be or a world to go back to.
