Background, values and non-work-related activities
Clay for me is something that wishes, but knows not quite how to be……a nameless movement, an uncaught idea calling the adventure of consciousness and joy - from Sri Aurobindo’s ‘Savitri’ Pottery to me is a metaphor for life. One can mould clay as per one’s own need – or better still – imagination. Yet, it has its unique character - a greater scheme that cannot be ignored or changed. You have to work within those limitations - yet, mould it your way. The uncertainty of results is a major driving force in pottery. And, the chance of failure at the very final stage is real. Pottery has taught me to handle disappointment on failure and to celebrate the joy of creation. It has also taught me to respect manual labour. From wedging clay…to working on the wheel, from moulding clay into a sculpture…to cleaning up the workspace – your own two hands are your best tools. It has taught me humility. Clay treats every potter the same – be it the one sitting in a studio, setting global trends, or the one by the roadside making diyas for Diwali.
These experiences, be it the ones in pottery - revolving around the self, or in teams like college festivals and social service, have helped me develop a unique combination of skills and attitudes that have enhanced my interpersonal relationships. Being an extrovert and having diverse interests and hobbies enables me to relate to a wide variety of individuals and situations. This has also helped me evolve into a warm and friendly leader who not only regards but also treats team members as partners, working towards a common goal. I would like to share my experiences, skills, attitudes and values with the diverse set of individuals who form the student body at XYZ and at the same time learn from their experiences. Other than Malhar, I was actively involved with the Social Service League (SSL) at St. Xavier’s College. I credit my interest and involvement in social & not-for-profit activities to my father, who has been actively involved in social service ever since I can remember. As a part of the SSL, I was involved in various projects like the one at Cheshire
