It lives and dies with them, and it causes others to do things they normally wouldn’t indulge in. It was born as a reaction to the bland, corporate rock of the 1970s. Punk started in the 1970's as a thorn in mainstream music’s side. The reason punk is a thorn in the side of popular 70's music is because it didn’t require great skill, and it wasn’t always planned out. There is an argument about where punk music started and why it did. Some people think it was the Sex Pistols in the UK, while others think it was the Ramones in New York. Punks will actually argue for hours over this. Who cares though?! It’s music. It just so happens that Americans did it louder, faster, and heavier than any band in the UK could do it. This is all in a day in the life of a punk. It has its ups and downs, and extreme ups and downs, yet still remains a viable life style today. In fact it is growing in numbers since the early numbers, and is also starting to become the mainstream of the music world today. The reason that it remains alive and kicking today is that no matter what happens to the lifestyle, its always about the love of the music.

The values of a punk are a little different then everyday people. Punks believe that government is restricting society, and influence peoples minds too heavily with rules and regulation. They feel that there shouldn’t be any order. Punks seek out something called anarchy. Anarchy is lack of government or order. The main reason why their anarchy never works out is because they talk about it and think that it could work, but never go through with the reforms that they feel are needed. In fact the Sex Pistols were a prime example of this; they believed that they should be heard just like many bands in the 70's. They were heard, and to be honest they couldn’t play any of their instruments, and their singer John Lyndon had no formal training with singing. They were in it completely for the money, and admit it. Basically it means that punk was formed because of a band that was just in it for the money. Which is something that punks are completely against. Isn’t that ironic?
