A proposed amendment to the First Amendment

            The author of the article addresses the issue of hate speech on university campuses nation wide. The phenomenon of hate speech is at a much larger scale then the reader would realize, but it is not a simple task to eliminate hate speech from the University campus. If the process is not done correctly in might violate the Free Speech act of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Universities that are funded by the government don't have the problem of hate speech to the extent that private institutions do. Because of that the author proposes steps that such institution have to take if they want to deal appropriately with the problem of hate speech on campus. The author also explains how the First Amendment relates to the issue of hate speech.
             I believe that the author has the right credentials to state his opinion about the hate speech phenomena. He is a law professor at the Catholic University of America and his articles are widely available at scholarly journals and at the Journal of Higher Education. This implies that the author is highly qualified to analyze the complicated legal matters that have to be settled in order to deal with the issue of hate speech. .
             Kaplin writes in a very professional matter. His tone is straightforward, lacking emotion or elaborations. His tone is dry and very non-bias. The article itself is written in a very structured way and considering that the subject could involve many different aspects such as a psychological one, it only elaborates on the legal aspect of the hate speech problem. This proves that the author is very professional and therefore even more credible.
