Human Recourse managment TV

Van Wilder is a college student in his seventh year on campus; a mix of the Party Animal at College and Yoda. The story goes like this: after Van's wealthy father decides to pull the plug on his son's seemingly lifetime tuition. Van is devastated, and is willing to do anything to stay where he is most comfortable, loved and adored: college. Van must hire a personal assistant Taj if he hopes to stay in school. Van and his assistant, Taj, decide to raise funds for Van's never-ending tuition by throwing parties for students who would never be able to throw a cool party on their own.

The beginning of this movie applies three standard ideas learned in lectures and emphasized in our outlines: The Selection Procedure, Compensation and Benefits Systems, and Training and Development, each of these ideas have several sub points that will link to both notes and lecture materials from class.

It is apparent that in Van’s seven years of college he attended at least one Human Recourse Management class because he uses several techniques we’ve learned in class in his selection process. First, Van clearly defined what duties would need to be conducted for his personal assistant through reviews

of previous assistants and an intoxicated discussion outlining what he would need with his best friend.

Van begins by recruiting several applicants. He then uses several recruiting sources that we covered during the Recruitment section in class. First he posts the job in the campus newspaper and has flyers passed out. In addition Van hangs a large sing that reads, “Van Wilder assistant interviews today” for students who happen to pass by. Van does not use any structured interview tactics or scheduling, instead he implores a walk-in strategy and each candidate is questioned in an unstructured and individual manner (which is a less effective method). However, he does use a group evaluation method (which is more effective), with both Van and his friend interviewing the applicants together and making a group decision, similar to our group exercise. Also, in an attempt to reduce turnover and re-incur valuable training time the job description is clearly given to the applicants prior to the interview.

Because of these wonderful perks a seemingly unbalanced compensation package begins to become more balanced to Taj. In addition the perks are a great motivational tool that makes Taj work harder in the assistance of planning great parties.

Because money is so tight it is clear that Van must hire someone who needs to be trained, since it is usually cheaper to trai
