On the morning of September 11th 2001, four passenger planes were hijacked by terrorist and used as weapons. At 8:45 am the first plane crashed into the North tower of the world-renowned World Trade Center. 9:06am herald the crashing of the second plane into the South tower of the World Trade Center. Approximately an hour later both towers collapsed. A third plane hit the Pentagon at 9:40am and a forth crashed in a field in Pennyslavia at 10:37, believe en route to Camp David. The reasons for this terrorist acts are many and can be easily classified into long and short term causes.

Another long-term cause would be the fact that American has helped Osama take down a superpower – namely the Soviet. In 1979 when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden managed to rally many Muslim youth and together they formed the Mujahadin. With the aid of US weaponry, the Mujahadin were able to overcome the Soviet Union. However once the war was over, the US simply left Afghan to fend for itself. With so much weaponry and so many people still lusting for war. Many civil wars began and until now quite a number of Muslims believe that it was US fault for not maintaining stability and peace. The downfall of the Soviet Union also showed Osama bin Laden that even superpowers could be toppled over with determination.

America is a lightning rod for criticism. Sadly, it is human nature to want to take others a notch down. In a nutshell, the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center was a heinous crime. There are countless reasons why Osama bin Laden planned the attack on the World Trade Center ranging from the crusades in the 11th
