For my graphics project I was asked to design a presentation pack for a new theme park containing a map, brochure and business cards.
Looking at my prototype I can see that I have had to make a lot of modifications. Therefore I did not achieve my original objective. However it is still very similar to the original and I still feel it attracts attention and fulfils the qualities of the packaging design I was trying to create.
During the design process my boxes lid was vandalised so I had to repair it which left my lid with a slight bend in it. Therefore the lid will not sit properly on the box. It still fits securely but not as accurately as I had envisaged it to be. This would be a simple thing to overcome as a modification.
I had originally intended to scan my chosen box logo into the computer and improve by using photo editor to smudge the colour and give a professional finish. I accomplished this easily. However I wanted to add text to the logo and a yellow shaded background using fill effects on the computer. Unfortunately I came across computer faults and had problems printing and actually putting together my logo with the text and background. So I overcome this by covering my box in yellow card then
sticking the logo and text on top. I didn’t get the desired shaded affect of dark yellow to light yellow that I wanted. However the yellow is a bright colour and attracts attention and is still very similar to my original intention. To secure everything into place and give a more professional look to the box I covered both the lid and base (separately) in sticky back plastic. This gave a very good textural shiny look to the box. However the box looked very ‘tatty’. I would overcome this by cutting a big long strip of card to fit around my box and not stick single bits of card on each length. I felt that the outer part of the box looked very bare even though it had the logo and text, so I modified it by placing the park name around the box. I chose a wavy text form word art, so it went around the box like a wave or almost like the serpent form one of my original box design ideas. This worked very well. When covering my box in sticky back plastic I saw that I had to cut triangular shapes for the plastic to go around the box smoothly and efficiently. This left some of box with no plastic covering it. I overcome this by placing red rectangular strips of card on the places with no plastic covering. When recreating this box I would find a better way of overcoming this problem because I don’t feel the red strips create the corr
