Harry potter epic

Stories such as The Odyssey, The Iliad, The Lord of The Rings and Beowulf all fall into the epic category. One adventure that is sometimes overlooked for it’s more modernism feel are the adventures of Harry Potter. Harry Potter, by J.K. Rowling, has all the characteristics as any traditional epic literary work and is a very exciting story for all ages. Harry Potter, although sometimes looked down upon by society for the witchcraft involved, is actually an epic that people of all ages can read, understand and enjoy, unlike the historical epics mentioned before.

The adventures of Harry Potter began when he was living with his malicious aunt and uncle. After Harry’s parents were killed, he was left on his aunt and uncle’s doorstep while he was still an infant. When Harry was growing up, his relatives never treated him

with the kindness that children, especially orphans, often need. Finally, after years of verbal abuse from his guardians, he received a letter from Hogwartz School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This letter stated that he had been accepted to attend. Soon after, a wizard named Hadrid came and took him off to London. This is where the plot gets interesting. Hadrid took Harry to a back room in a bar, taps a few bricks and the bricks maneuver to make a doorway. This makes way to the wizard shops where one can buy any thing from owls to wands. Eventually they arrived at Hogwartz, which resembles the Disney castle, where all students were assigned to one of four “houses” by means of sitting a talking hat on their heads and the hat announcing it’s answer. Around Hogwartz there is many more unusual surprises, for instance a huge mountain troll destroying the bathroom with a club. Harry, along with the friends he has meet at Hogwartz; end up going on magical, dangerous adventures around the school, including the Forbidden Forest.

Of course, the universal “good vs. evil” theme is a major attribute of making Harry Potter an epic. Magic is real in the world of Hogwartz. Therefore. There are two sides to the magic. These sides would be good and evil. Harry Potter is a perfect example of this. However, some religious organizations and parents think this may be a bad influence for children because of the wizardry and witchcraft involved. This way of writing is used for the reader’s enjoyment, and the tasks and difficult adventures that the good characters must go through to prevail.

Another characteristic of an epic is how the hero’s deeds determine the fate of a group of people. This is the perfect example of how Harry Potter is an epic. When Harry, along with his friends, Ron and Hermione, try to find the Sorcerer’s Stone, they are put in great danger. Their mission was to find out what was being
