Many teens in America are experiencing unplanned pregnancies. Almost 50 percent of these pregnancies are caused by alcohol. Alcohol also causes nearly half of teen car accidents (Walsh 1). Throughout America the drug that is used the most among teens is alcohol (Social 1). It is estimated that more than 10 million teens drink regularly. This costs the nation almost 53 billion dollars (Geier 3). Underage drinking is becoming a large problem in the U.S. and it needs to be stopped. Out of all of those who drink and are underage, two thirds of them claim they can purchase alcohol themselves (Georgia 1). This is obviously a problem that has to do with those who sell and distribute alcohol. People are selling alcohol to minors and getting away with it. A survey showed that 19.2 percent of teens used alcohol within 30 days before the survey (Social 1). Of all the alcohol consumed in the U.S., teenagers are responsible for consuming 25 percent of it. Also 31 percent of teenagers drink heavily at least once a month. This means that once a month they drink until they puke or passout (Underage 1). These are really alarming and scary facts.
