Anything but Average

Ever since I can remember everyone has been telling me what a great dad I have. They would say things like, "you are so lucky- and "wow, what a great guy-. In some respects I always knew that my dad was an extraordinary man, but I never understood just how out of the ordinary he really was. It was through watching him live his own life, a life full of un-candid experiences, that I truly came to know just how blessed I am, not only know him, but to proudly call him dad. .
In passing my father on the street, one wouldn't stop and stare, for in physical appearance he is an average man. He stands approximately five feet 11 inches above the ground, and his normally perfect posture reveals all of physical strength. His olive skin tone, dark hair, though now lightly dusted with shades of gray and thick mustache reflect his Italian birthright, something he speaks of with pride. He wears glasses most of the time, hinting towards his aging body, and while the glasses slightly cover his large dark brown eyes they allude to all the wisdom that is hidden behind. The visible veins running through his hands illustrate his strength as does his robust physique. He always wears khaki pants or jeans and tightly tucks in his piqué polo shirt, collar always popped up. He has a birthmark on the side of his left eye, as do I. He says "It's a Tocco trademark-. .
My dad grew up in an average to lower class family but always says he had everything he needed. He was born in St. Louis and was the second eldest of 4 children. It was in his hometown, in an average house that his beyond average values were instilled in him. Although part of the lower class he never had, and still to this day has ever complained. He admits to not having everything but also acknowledges there were many worse off than him. His amazing love and respect for his family is inspiring. He will stop at nothing to protect those who he loves.
