Orwell believes that being a “saint” removes a something from people that is essential to being human. Orwell criticizes Gandhi for Gandhi’s “inconsiderate” attitude towards humanity. Orwell believes that even though Gandhi had very noble ideals, the actions that Gandhi took during the pursuit those ideals were sometimes cruel and inhuman. Orwell makes an effective argument against the search for sainthood, saying that the effect of such a search is to lose one’s humanity.
