Technology and Our Future


            
             People always tend to seek the easy way out. They look for something that will make their lives easier. Computers and the internet have given us the ability to do that. This rage of technology has given us the ability to do more in less time. As technology advances, computers become faster and more powerful. Every day a better, more powerful and advanced computer is made, and the internet being the doorway to the future.
             Computers effect the way children learn. In most schools there are computers in every classroom. Before computers research was done in a library with a pile of books spread all over the table. Thanks to computers and the internet research is no longer done that way. Now with the click of a button all the information you could ever need is at your finger tips. The internet has opened many doors for students today. It is on television, in magazines, newspapers, and in our schools. Students no longer have to crack open an encyclopedia for information. Ted Gup, a professor of journalism states:.
             The world my two young sons inherit is a very different place. That same encyclopedia now comes on cd-rom. [.] In a flash the subject appears on the screen. The search is perfected in a single stroke-no flipping of pages, no risk of distraction, no unintended consequences (479).
             It can all be accessed on the World Wide Web. No longer will a child have a chance to accidently stumble on a new interesting fact while researching something else. No chance left for accidental exploration. The access that students have to the internet is causing a wave of laziness. They no longer have to work for the information. The internet practically hand-feeds the students of today. Everything on the internet is neatly categorized for their easy access. They are able to pick and choose what to click on and read. "Nothing comes unless summoned.
