Christianity is one in the same

A little over two thousand years ago a new religion was formed from the teachings and example of one man, whose name was Jesus Christ. This religion was named Christianity after the man whose ways its doctrines are based. The belief of Christianity revolves around the idea of an almighty God who rules over heaven and earth, who sent his son to earth to allow mankind to gain entry into heaven. God, known as the “Father,” is the timeless, omnipotent power and judge of all that is good and evil, who resides in his kingdom in heaven. Jesus, called the “Son of God,” by his followers, is described in the New Testament of the Bible. During his life Jesus preached and taught human relationships should be about love and fellowship among one another, as well as faith in God. He taught of the intimate relationship with God that all people could have through devotion and prayer to the Father. Christians believe Jesus led a perfect moral life, which all others should try to imitate. The Son of God spent his life preaching his beliefs until the Romans crucified him on the cross. Christians believe that three days after Christ’s death he was resurrected by God and brought into the kingdom of heaven. Through the raising of Christ

An example of one such denomination of Christianity would be the practices of Presbyterians. Based on the beliefs of John Calvin who established the church whose government revolved around the idea of an office elder. This Church is itself a government. Congregations govern themselves by means of a ruling committee of the pastors and elders, who are representatives elected by the laymen of the church.. The representation of laymen and pastors maintains the balance within the rulings of the church. The ruling committees of congregations belong to a presbytery that governs and coordinates the activities of the churches in their given geographic areas. The church’s duties include gospel proclamation and celebration of the sacraments. .Presbyterians believe in the baptism of infants of believers or adults who become Christians. The other sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is only celebrated occasionally. Scripture and faith hold the authority in the church.

Others, such as Congregationalists, have a different belief in the way of governing the church. They believe in autonomy wherein the church governs itself internally. No outside power dictates the congregations. The local churches choose their own ministers or clergy. They believe firmly in the separation of church and state. While both important the two are not to interfere with one another.
