History of American Government
Part I: Provide a history of the formation of the constitution and of early American government through Jefferson's Presidency. Conclude this section with a description of the structure of American government [all branches] and politics at that time.The history of American government starts several year before there was even an American government with a series of events mainly between the British colonies and Great Britain developing into problems that would cause a change of power to the colonists themselves. Under British rule colonists were required to feed and quarter British soldiers in large number without compensation or even necessarily respect from the receiving soldiers, which may have caused the soldiers to become tyrannical and oppressive to the colonists, murders (Boston Massacre) and crimes committed by these troops against colonists created much hatred toward those soldiers. With all of the troops staying in these colonies they did not offer much in the way of service as a military in protection against Native Americans and other policing duties. To add insult to injury the colonists were progressively being taxed more for reasons deemed by Great Britain, on of which was the ever so protective military. All
With F.D.R being immensely popular he tried to run for a 3rd term of presidency unsuccessfully, the 22nd amendment affirmed the presidential term limit would be confined to 2 terms. Interest groups really become a power, and some fairly wealthy enough to fund presidential campaigning. Becoming president was quickly becoming a popularity contest and the political machine was going into overdrive. The civil rights movement was forcing judicial stimulation, and in 1964 the Civil rights act was passed. The courts relaxed speech rights and freedom of expression. Equal rights, though mainly for African Americans was all across the board with woman, other ethnic groups, social classes, religious freedom and exercise all had their share of the controversy. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X high profile equal rights speakers and were killed as was Kennedy was anti-Vietnam and assassinated. The 23rd, 24th, and 26th amendments changed voter rights and privileges in this era including: the voting age of 18, District of Columbia included, and the removal of any poll taxes. The 25th amendment addressed death of the president and vice-president assumption and replacement. Nixon and the scandals created mistrust in the presidency. Federal grants increase greatly falling inline with the democratic programs. Part IV: Provide a history of politics and government from W.W.I. to the end of WWII.
