The movie Edward Scissorhands, emphasizes how hard it is for a person out of the norm to actually be accepted in society. People judge others by their appearance before getting to know a person. When seeing someone or something new, some sort of comment or reaction will come into a persons’ mind; weather it be good, bad, or just simply a thought. Many times if a negative impression is given off by a person that you are not well acquainted with, automatically you will feel a sense of disconnection towards that person; leaving the mentality that the other person is different and you do not want to accept their differences.
Edward is a perfect example for the new person that is shunned by society without even consulting him with what happened; no second chance was given. He is not human but is an unfinished creation. Edward’s physical and mental differences made him the outsider of all the townspeople. He was quickly accepted by the community when he had his artistic works to offer them. Then once there became a misunderstanding, they quickly reject him with no second thoughts. The first thoughts that come into their heads would be, “I knew he was going to be like that from the start!” or some kind of reaction of that sort. If Edward was actually a normal person living in the community, and there was a misunderstanding, the situation would have been dealt with differently.
Then there is Edward; living isolated on a hilltop in a dark and gloomy castle. He wears dark clothes, has raunchy jet-black hair, and an overly pale white face. Besides the dark impression that he gives off, the biggest handicap that he has would be the scissors that he has for hands. Although he may have many physical differences from the average person, he has many si
