In the play “The Raisin in the Sun”, a lack family must deal with the conflicts of a racist society. The story brings up two major conflicts in the life of the family the younger. The family had to first deal with the problem of what to do with the insurance money that they received, and also on top of that, dealing with living in an extreme racist society.
The first conflict that was brought up in the play was the decision of what to do with the money. The main Younger in charge, “Mama” wants to use the money to use the money to purchase a new house. She tells the family how nice it would be to start all over and finally fulfill their dream. Her son Walter, however; disagrees and wants to use the money to invest it in a liquo
r store. He states how they could make more money investing it and make money in the long run. Beneatha, Walters sister, has a yet a different idea. She wants to use the money to go towards education for medical training. This conflict was huge due to the fact that money always creates problems in a family setting.
In conclusion, the two conflicts had both were somewhat resolved. The money was dispersed two different places. Walter spent about half the money on the liquor store which was later stolen. Mama did use up the rest of the money on a down payment on the house. The racist insured was only partially resolved. Of course in that time period whites and blacks never got a long due to that fact that society said it was wrong
