Great Hitter
The sounds of the fans, cheering after the singing of the national anthem, made it feel like a professional game. Smelling the fresh cut grass, and the aroma of the hotdogs cooking in the concession stand, made this day great for baseball. As he stared out across the diamond as the opposing team took the field, he thought about what he had to do at the plate to help his team. There are many things that a hitter must do, either in the dugout or up at the plate, to become a great hitter. For example, he sat and studied the pitcher, as he threw out some warm up pitches. When the batter ahead of him went to the plate, he stepped into the on deck circle to try and catch certain things the pitcher does to tip you off on what pitch he was going to throw. The pitcher threw a couple fastballs and the came back with a curve ball. He noticed when he threw the curve ball, his motion slowed dramatically. That will make this pitch easier to be ready for. As he headed to the plate, he went up there with a plan. He was sitting on the fastball, until he got down in the count with two strikes. The batter stepped in, and the p
itcher threw the ball. He did not see his motion slow at all so he knew it was a fastball. The pitch came to the zone and he drove it to the corner. When you as a batter have a plan such as he did, it allows you to be in control of the at bat. Lastly, the example that will help you the most with being a solid hitter, are your fundamentals. As the pitcher throws, the batter waits and swings. He missed. When his swing was complete his eyes were looking at the base coach. He knew he needed to keep his eye on the ball all the way through contact. When the next pitch was thrown, he lunged onto the front leg and tried to slap at it. Your strength as a hitter is to stay balanced, and keep most of the weight on the back leg. It will allow you to hit the ball harder and more consistently. The pitcher threw the next pitch. He saw the ball out of his hand, and watched it all the way to the zone. Keeping the weight balanced, he started his swing. As the ball moved closer he followed the ball all the way to the bat head. The ball was hit sharply. This alone will allow you to hit the ball, but will not make you something great.
