The prohibition of desecration, particularly burning, of the American flag has been an issue for quite some time now. People have different views on this particular subject. Some believe that the right to burn the flag should be protected; others think it should be abolished. In my opinion, there are two main standpoints one may have on the subject. The first group is for flag burning; the second is against it. The first group may use the fact that their freedom to protest is being violated if they cannot burn the flag. As of right now, legally they are correct. The second group would somewhat agree with the fact that everyone has the freedom to protest non-violently, except when they are discrediting the thing that stands for the very freedoms they are exercising. The American flag is a symbol, that symbol should be protected by the creation of a law banning desecration of the American flag.

First of all, if the administration of the United States is doing something you don’t approve of, such as waging a war on Iraq, there are many other ways of protesting. You could write to your congressman, or even petition for actions to change what you don’t approve of.
