The Kyoto Protocol can slow the rate of global warming, but the United States believes it is fundametally flawed(“United States Policy”). President Bush believes that the Protocol will harm the economy of the United States. The Bush administration is not completely turning its back on the Protocol, they are trying to revise it so the United States economy will not take dive. CNN reports in 2001 that the United States is facing an economic downturn and energy shortage, therefore, the U.S. doesn’t want to agree to any commentmits that could jepordise the economy( “Kyoto”). ABC news states President Bush believes that global warming is a serious issue and will continue to work with allies on a better action on global warming than what came out of Kyoto(“Bush”). The Kyoto Protocol doesn’t provide the long term solution the world seek to the problem of global warming. The goals of the Kyoto Protocol were made not by science, but by political negotiation, and therefore are ineffective (“United States Policy”). They Kyoto Protocol slows the process of global warming, but doesn’t slow it down enough to make a big difference.
