Piercy uses these two poems to try and open this world’s eye to how females, in general, actually feel. These poems are not trying to enforce women’s rights, nor show them being violated. She just wants society to know how females each think. She shows us how society has created a concrete mold on the way the perfect female should stand, look, behave, and think. Each woman is a separate, more beautiful mold. Some tall and slim, others short and stocky, yet all beautiful and gorgeous in their own unique way. If every woman were five foot five with long wavy hair, a perfect figure, and smart as a whip, life would be boring. We, as a whole, need to smash society’s mold in order to make room for every woman’s mold--each forming a different yet, beautiful female.

These women are tired of serving and cleaning and cooking and never getting a thank you or a compliment in return. It seems as if every day they become less and less attractive and eye-catching to their husbands. Their battlefields are the dinner tables, their burnt chicken, the A- bomb they drop on their husbands’ plates. The chicken is black, tasteless, crusty, and almost radioactive. Their smiles have long turned into their war faces, where anger and resentment are painted on like camouflage. Their husbands’ stomachs and appetites are the plan of attack. It has taken years for these women to finally strike, but victory will somehow taste so sweet!
