The colonists were not fighting to attain rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and they weren’t fighting for independence, they were fighting to keep these things. The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and basic freedoms were things that the colonist had always had. They were not fighting to be able to govern themselves; they were fighting to keep governing themselves.

Preston says that he didn’t feel any oppressions, the colonists didn’t care about being oppressed they cared that things weren’t the way they used to be. He has never heard of Locke, and the eternal principles of liberty, this was because people like Preston didn’t care about Locke. Their decision making was not based upon reading the latest literature of Locke or any other writer.
