Colonial Revolutions

The colonies were created by companies and individuals, not set up by the crown or parliament. As colonies, they basically had the right to govern themselves, and colonists were still considered English citizens. Yet before, during, and the English civil war, the colonies were left alone, this time is called the Period of Salutary Neglect. In it the colonies were neglected by England. During this time the colonies had a chance to develop virtually without the presence of the crown or parliament. Having this freedom and independence, the colonies soon became accustomed to living this way. When this freedom and independence that they always had is revoked, the colonists fight for things to return to the way they were.

When England started exercising authority of the colonies after the Glorious Revolution they began to change the way the colonies had always done things. They start to take away things that the colonists had always had. This is why the colonists beco


The colonists were not fighting to attain rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and they weren’t fighting for independence, they were fighting to keep these things. The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and basic freedoms were things that the colonist had always had. They were not fighting to be able to govern themselves; they were fighting to keep governing themselves.
