Just A Movie?

In 1999, one of the most memorable movies of all time was released to the masses. The Matrix was a science fiction look into what our world could become, or already is. In a memorable scene, Morpheous, played by Lawrence Fishbourne, explained that no one can be told what the Matrix truly is.

In 2003, no one needs to be told, because everyone fully knows what the Matrix is. With the second installment of the Matrix trilogy, cleverly named “Reloaded”, fans are beginning to question reality as we know it. Magazines created polls asking whether readers think we are really living in the Matrix. People say yes, apparently unable to realize that it is only a movie. This idea of toying with people’s sense of reality is pure genius in my mind. That is the power of the original film. The Matrix is an inspiring movie that defines a generation.

The original Matrix film offered elements of mystery, science fiction, and even comedy. It is of course an action based film, “wire fighting” techniques were perfected in this these movies. This is done by attaching almost invisible wires to the performers to propel them in a zero gravity fashion. Another ingenious idea was to develop the concept of “bullet time

In my opinion, this was over all a good movie, mainly from the eye popping special effects and fight scenes. The dialogue can be boring, if not confusing, at times where the Matrix world and the real world are intertwined. I feel the directors made the film this way for a purpose. The directors of these movies blended them together nicely. The first movie had to deal with birth, how Neo came to learn of the Matrix and become a part of it. The second dealt with life and love, and how you must fight to survive in the world. The third and final installment will be released this winter; “The Matrix Revolutions.” This will deal with death and the final chapters of the Matrix.

. When a bullet is fired, the camera actually shows the bullet in slow motion flight. This concept is used because once trained in the Matrix, an individual can actually dodge bullets. This causes extremely exciting special effects. Four years from releasing their debut film, “Enter the Matrix”, the directors, Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski crash onto the scene with the years most anticipated move, “The Matrix Reloaded”.

If you were to cut out the rest of the film and spend an hour with these few action scenes, you have a masterpiece on your hands.
