Birth Control methods

There are many things to consider when taking the leap from abstinence to intercourse. One of the biggest things is that of birth control. There are many types of birth control to choose from. Condoms are the most widely used form of birth control around. There are many reasons condoms are so popular. Condoms help prevent sexually transmitted disease and are a very effective form of birth control. When compared to all other forms of birth control the advantages of using a condom, the costs involved, the effectiveness, and the disadvantages summed all up clearly make the condom the best choice.

Condoms are a very inexpensive way to protect both partners in a sexual relationship. Condoms are a very quick easy solution when a person would like to be intimate without having to much worry involved. The cost of a condom is very inexpensive. You can pick up a whole box containing six condoms for about $3.99 at any gas station, supermarket or drugstore; they can even be purchased from a bathroom vending machine. Another way to obtain condoms is at an AIDS prevention center or family planning clinic where they are free to the public. Using condoms does have downfalls however they can break making them completely worthless and i

Another type of oral contraceptive is the patch (Ortho Evra). This tiny little patch can be placed on the skin of buttocks, stomach, upper outer arm, or upper torso once a week for three out of four weeks. The patch is also hormonal causing the body to think it is already pregnant kind of like the pill. The patch is very effective, and reversible. This form of birth control is more effective even than the condom. With typical use the patch will be 99% effective and with perfect use even better than that. With this form of birth control the woman is the one in control because it can’t be worn by a man. A doctor must also be seen to obtain a prescription for the patch. The cost of the patch is between $30.00 and $35.00, the doctor visit can also cost between $10.00 and $125.00 quite a bit more than the cost of a condom. Some disadvantages of the patch are it causes some side effects in women including weight gain, nausea, mood changes, and breast tenderness. When compared to other forms of birth control however the patch is very simple and effective.

One of the most widely used forms of birth control around the world is the IUD (Intrauterine Device). This device is placed inside a woman’s uterus to help prevent pregnancy. The IUD is a form of birth control when removed from the uterus its effects are reversed immediately. The way the IUD works is not completely understood throughout the medical community, doctors only guess how it works. The unfortunate thing about the IUD is that it is only 94% effective, these are good odds but not as good as the three discussed earlier. The cost is the highest of all other forms discussed so far. The average cost of insertion is $400.00 but it lasts up to ten years. Side effects can include cramping, bleeding, and if a
