Making a Business Competitive in Today’s Global Market

There have been many concepts learned in this class that can be applied to making and keeping a business competitive. In this short essay, I will discuss many of these concepts and how they can be used in today’s business marketplace.

Productivity is the ratio of output over input which input includes labor, materials, and overhead. Productivity is also directly linked to the success of a business.

“Every business to improve must control variations in all of its processes. Variations is the mother of all evil. It is the single most important source of waste.” A business has to control variations when it comes to production. It was very evident in the book “The Goal” that something had to be done to control the variations or production could slow way down and there would be way too much waste.

ery important. Last, but not least, the business must do all of this in a socially and ethically responsible manner. In the last few years, this part of the company has been put under the microscope with all of the companies being shut down because of unethical practices. That is why this is so important when a company does its business.

When you want to make a successful business decision, you must first understand the game. One
