Jupiter, the fifth planet from the sun, is obviously a unique planet with many amazing characteristics. This mighty giant is by far the largest planet in our solar system. Interestingly enough, if Jupiter were to be 100 times larger than it is now, it could have become a star. In turn, our solar system would become a dual star solar system. Like Jupiter, Saturn has also been known since prehistoric times. Galileo first discovered it with a telescope in 1610. He was confused by its odd appearance. When he viewed the planet it looked as if it had two “appendages” on either side of it. He was even more puzzled when they later disappeared. What Galileo didn’t realize was that he was viewing the rings of Saturn. When they seemed to disappear, it was because he was viewing the rings edge-on. Saturn’s rings remained unique until 1977 when rings were discovered to be around Uranus. Soon after, they were discovered around Jupiter and Neptune. Saturn has great amount of satellites circling around it. Not quite as many as Jupiter, which has 39 moons, Saturn has 30 moons.
