More than just a story of a woman on a mission, ?A Worn Path? depicts the struggle and hardship that faces many people in society today. Phoenix portrays the plight of an elderly black woman that is forced to take a journey to find medicine to treat her ailing grandson. This story can be taken for the literal meaning which we get from simply reading the story, or what the story could represent. This happens to be a story filled with images and ideas that point fingers in different directions and help maintain a blurry image of the actual story itself. From what is understood in the story she represents a strong figure, and a role model type of character. She defies odds multiple times and proves that she has heart, soul, and physical stability. Phoenix is a woman that deserves a big pat on the back, and having the strength to over come this all is uncanny.

The point was made that this woman is strong, but what do we really know that could prove this statement? Who could phoenix be in common with, that was revered in society?s eye for what he/she has done? The first idea that comes to mind is Jesus Christ. He along with Phoenix endured a long trip for something that they believed in. Both of them faced hatred and discrimination, but both forged ahead to complete what they had attempted. Jesus carried his cross and died for the people of his religion. Most didn?t believe in what Jesus was preaching and helped condemn him to death. They pelted him with rocks along the way and the mirror image of that is the hunter and the women in ?A Worn Path.? They tried to hate from the sidelines but what they didn?t understand was that this woman wasn?t unintelligent or weird. She was a normal human being like the rest of the population. She and Jesus deserved a lot more than what they got but as we reflect on what both stories have taught us we come to the same conclusion. Both of them did what they had to do
