ACTIVITY ANALYSIS REPORT
The activity taught to the group (patient) was to learn how to;Due to a minor incident at home, one member of the group had sustained a minor foot injury. There was a suspected fracture of one of the bones in the left foot because of this crutches had to be used to keep the body weight off the foot. Excessive weight could have caused further damage to the appendage, or even have prolonged the healing time of the bone. The psychological problems, concerning the use of crutches, occurred included; • The equipment being to cumbersome • It being to much effort to go anywhere • It being a slow process to get somewhere • The patient then getting depressed
These points are also following the principles of an ethical based therapeutic relationship, as stated by SIM (1986) and BARNITT (1993); • Happier psychological outcomes reached with success This exercise taught the group to know how to approach the clients on crutches or even with further injuries/disabilities. It was also provided valuable future references in an occupational therapists career. Over a short period of time, it became apparent to the user that through the use of crutches there was an increase in upper body strength. This was due to the transfer of body weight going through the arm and shoulders and no longer one leg to the other.
