Youth violence is quickly becoming one of the major concerns in American today. More and more we are seeing a disturbing trend of increasingly frequent occurrences of schoolyard violence. We keep on asking ourselves what is making the American youth today so violent, and if there is anything we can do to stop this disturbing trend. Everyone has suggested different ways of resolving this issue, and everyone has been trying to explain the cause of youth violence. But can violence really be explained? I think that there is no definite answer to the cause of violence. While it¡¦s true that many things could have contributed to violence among teenagers, there is simply no compelling evidence or facts that can clearly explain the growing youth violence in America today.

In the article ¡§Countering Violence,¡¨ Stephen M. Wolf gives us many steps with which we should be aware of as we confront with violence (American Now, 3rd edition). He thinks that there is simply too much of a pervasive and unacceptable level of violence in the lives of American youth, and states that one of the biggest causes in youth violence today is the abundance

While both Douglas and Wolf bring up good points in attempts to explain these violence, I agree with Wooten, in his article, ¡§As the Murder Rate Falls, Violence Soars,¡¨ that tougher gun control laws suggested by politicians and theorists are simply not the answer to solve youth violence (American Now, 3rd edition). As Wooten points out, most of the weapons used in violent crimes were either obtained through completely legal channels by people who are seemingly normal, who passed all of the background checks and then went on rampages; or illegally, through theft or black market (317 ¡V 319). For instance, the incident of school shooting happened in De Anza College, the teenager criminal who steals his father¡¦s gun at home and almost causes a tragedy, he just look like everyone. Therefore, violence can hardly be stopped by the strictest gun laws.

However, demonizing movies and video games and gun control claims are simply convenient and inadequate explanations to this complicated problem. It is foolish to be placing all the blames on Hollywood and Silicon Valley, who makes violent TV shows, movies, and video games that supposedly were the culprit in turning our youth into violent mu
