Equus

             It is said that the way a child acts in their elder years usually closely resembles the personality that the parent displays while the child is growing up. In Peter Shaffer's magnificent' play "Eguus- this is proven. If Alan's parents were to agree on a better way to raise their son, he may have grown up and known how to differentiate between right and wrong. The lifestyle Alan's parents, Dora and Frank, submerge him into makes them completely responsible for the personality and the actions of the adult Alan. .
             Most of Alan's problems stem from his mothers constant preaching of the bible as well as how she continuously disregards her husbands opinions. The way that Alan's mother Dora constantly preaches the bible to him puts the thoughts into his mind that there is nothing better in the world than the bible or his worship. These beliefs are put into Alan's mind because of the way that his mother reads the bible stories to him: .
             Dysart: Would you say she was closer to him than you are?.
             Frank: They've always been thick as thieves. I can't say I entirely.

             This statement suggests that Dora's excessive bible teachings have been poured down Alan's throat since he was young. Dora's husband believes that because of the intense ways that Alan was subjected to bible stories the way he acts is all the bibles as well as Dora's fault. Dora does not care if Alan goes to school; she is not bothered by the fact that Alan does not know how to write his name, how he is not familiar with mathematics or science and how he has no friends. All that Dora cares about is how her son responds to her stories of God and of the bible.
