Communication is the basis of all human interaction. During this task my class developed communication skills and we learnt to apply them in dramatic performance. Verbal communication should have qualities such as, audibility, clarity, fluency, flexibility and control, appropriate to a certain character. Non –Verbal communication involves a controlled use of space and physical discipline, relevant to the character which should help to convey an appropriate mood and atmosphere. As communication is such a crucial aspect of living, the community needs to have a complete sense of both verbal and non-verbal communication to encode and decode messages. In particular, drama students should have a complete understanding and knowledge of communication in order to develop a characters’ usage of these qualities. The communication of two people evolves a sender and a receiver. The sender has objectives he or she wishes to obtain. It is important for the receiver to be open and willing to accept the message. Our task was to take a script which was "Monster Hotel" and adapt to the script to make a comedic presentation in front of our class. Before giving any task it is our duty to understand the objective and to understand it from our full potential. So the first thing I and my group had done was to look at the script and read it couple of times understanding the weaknesses and strengths that were present in this script. Then we decided which of us would suit each of these lines the best because it depended mostly on our character traits and our communication skills. I was given the role of a Hunchback, the character I was given was a monster and I had to develop a sense of this character before I present. I had developed a bizarre sense of accent at first which I thought wasn't working at first. However after I played around with different voices I finally found one that would fit well in this presentation. So we had finally given out each role and started working on the script. Then we had looked at the different points where the script was funny and different places where it needed improvements. When we were rehearsing I thought this was one of the times that I thought we had experienced great success. This was because we were all well organized and had everything planned. We had great accents however I thought the Doctor and Igor could have used more improvements. This was because most of the lines were carrier from these two individuals and we should have as a group created a way to make their lines amusing and well done. When I saw the second group's presentation of the monster hotel I was astonished to see how they were able to make their script funny as well as amusing to the viewers. These were the types of structures that I encouraged my group to do
