Compare and Contrast Hamlet
Two of the main characters in the play Hamlet are Hamlet and Laertes. Hamlet is the son of the late King Hamlet. Laertes is the son of Polonius, the royal counselor. The similarities and differences of Hamlet and Laertes are quite obvious. First, they both have to deal with the loss of their fathers. Second, they both have a strong love for Ophelia. Lastly, they both want revenge for the death of their fathers. While Hamlet and Laertes start out as friends, the tension that begins to build between them as events take place destroys their Hamlet’s father was murdered by his own brother Claudius. Claudius became the King after marrying Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude, shortly after the late King’s death. While dealing with the death of his father, Hamlet turned to his love interest, Ophelia. The two seemed to be much in love, but after Laertes, Ophelia’s brother and Polonius, Ophelia’s father, requested that she not see Hamlet anymore their relationship was doomed.
