Water purification is the process in which you take contaminated, dirty water and cycle it through a series of filters to clean and sterilize it. My group comprised of Brian (Team Leader), Laura (Recorder), Alynsia (Materials Producer), and myself Louis (Materials Producer) are in charge of purifying the town of Brown water’s Water. The sample of water that was inspected by the group was a mercy looking substance that from our knowledge contained: mineral oil, vinegar, macerated leaves, garlic, and potting soil. This is not a mixture of just about everything that you could have effect our water in this town. As you can tell our water is a very dirty and smelly substance that needs to be purified soon or many will be affected and possibly die.
Like everything else there is a purpose for the four methods of water purification. Extraction is the first step in our process, and its purpose is to clean water enough so that partials are no longer present. This will clean water enough to get retested. Filtration is the second
In the country of Portugal I have found that water is not so clean. After many years of the water system filtering in with the septic tanks from the peoples houses, people have had to resort to well water. The water that is found by the common person to filter out contains many particles and substances that I would not really like to purify. There is a large coastline that Portugal can use for its water supply though it costs an extraordinary amount of money to filter out salt from the ocean. Portugal is not hurting for water though because of past history there supply is damaged for a long time.
Brown water’s water is now clean because of our group in geology and we are ready for the next task. I have learned that even though water may be dirty and contaminated that there are ways and a process to clean it. There is no reason that a country should run out of water with this knowledge. I learned a lot in this lab that can help me on hikes and different activities that I may have to find water. I love geology.
