How does literacy influence people’s life? Are we literate? The ability to communicate well (read, write and speak) is the core of human experience in literacy. Language skills are essential tools not only because they serve as the necessary basis for further learning and career development, but also because they enrich the human perspective, cultivate responsible people, and maintain the mutual memory of a nation. People have a personal relationship with language and learning because they need it to interact with each other. Since I was a child, my relationship with language and learning was very strong although I had negatively influenced by teachers and society. When I was born in Peru my parent’s financial situation was not solvent. Consequently, I went to a public elementary school. The teachers did not concern of students’ learning, but my grades in school were excellent through second grade .The public school teachers did not perform their job due to the low salaries, and the minimal supplies given by the government. The television was damaging my academic performance because my viewing time increased a lot, and my grades decreased. On my preadolescent and early adolescent appeared to use television as a companion. In the other hand, television gave me the ability to distinguish between voices on sounds track or between figures and backgrounds. I understood the importance of editing and the ability to follow a narrative story. My life was strongly influenced by television literacy because television and written language are forms of communication, methods or suggesting meanings, and the level of shared understanding between my friends and I. Secondly, television strongly shaped my aptitudes towards people, places and things. Subsequently, I spent less time reading, listening to the radio, visiting friends, or going to the movies in my preadolescent. In addition, I used television as a tool for emotional release, to engage on fantasy, and specially to be informed. Sometimes I used television to have something to talk about with my friends, and to compare us against some idealized version of youth on the television shows. Furthermore, when I was four, I was reading on my own, and my interest in reading surged. Also, through kindergarten and first grade my skills improved. Meanwhile, when I entered second grade, my dad read to me less frequently since I had established the habit of reading myself before I went to bed. By the end of second grade, although I read well, my voluntary reading habits declined to almost nothing. There were many things my teachers could have done to help me improve my reading at school because my parents’ job was not to teach me the skills of reading. My parents’ interest and support was less when my parents began to work in their own business. My parents did not have enough time to see how I was doing in my courses or notice the poor education that I was receiving.
