In the world of artistic expression, the change in perspective that arose with the rise of modernism was the biggest development in artistic representation. The old way of linear perspective was abandoned in favor of new ways of looking at objects and ideas. Experimental artwork consisting of areas consistent of form, content and presentation were brought forward. Anything to do with the old ways of artistic expression were rejected for being too old and conservative. The modernist artistic journey was underway. The age of early modernism is from 1863 - 1950. In early modernism the artist rejected the traditional forms of expression and created newly formed artistic expressions. This meant that they were no longer looking and using the long standing European ways of artistic form . The new work produced in that era was modern. This new way of thought included streamlined, neat and forward-looking design. Another aspect of early modernism was that some artists made emotional and very expressive paintings where the brushstrokes were visible and had the same importance in the work as the subject or people would. • Cubism: Cubism can be defined as either analytical or synthetic. In analytical cubist painting, the object was "taken apart" and reshaped with the use of flat intersecting planes. A synthetic cubist work had bits of real objects worked into the picture. Items like newspaper clippings, rope and other "found objects" were attached to the canvas. • Pop Art: The subject matter of this expression involves common objects and commercial images. These objects are often distorted, enlarged, simplified and decorated using strange colors. • Op Art: Op Art was an art movement in the artist was very much interested in the idea of creating movement on a two dimensional surface by tricking the eye with a series of optical illusions.
