Fat people
“Livin’ large” is no longer just a slang phrase; it is now literally becoming a dangerous problem. According to the U.S surgeon general’s report more than 61 percent of our nation’s adults are overweight, 27 percent of those are obese. This is more than a physical appearance problem, with obesity comes a high risk of cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, angina, and lung disease. Obesity is responsible for about 300,000 deaths a year and is the second leading killer, just behind tobacco (Marcus; Raeburn). So far 18 states are doing more, they are adding more tax on snack foods and soda hoping to achieve two things. A larger tax could possibly drive down demand for these items, and the extra money could be used to fund healthy lifestyle campaigns, seriously helping them out financially for the first time (“A High With Your Fries”). The fast food industry is also working to add more nutritious and balanced options to their menus. Frito-Lay recognizes the problem as well, and claims that they have brought on consultants who are working to achieve a healthier product line. Coca-Cola is working on a children
