Acoustic and Electric Guitars

Most aspiring guitar players face a common dilemma: Whether to choose between the acoustic or electric guitar. In making this choice, the musician should focus on the specifics: sound, convenience and image. People who approach this problem in most cases are deciding what to purchase or are looking for a way with which to go about creating music or a certain sound .

The most important issue when choosing between acoustic and electric guitar is the sound which they make. In comparison, both guitars’ strings are plucked, the vibrations of the string produces the guitars’ sounds. The difference between the two is the way in which the sound is amplified. An acoustic guitar amplifies itself because the guitar is hollowly built and has a hole (usually centered) which allows the sound to travel in and out of the guitar. Because it amplifies itself, the acoustic guitar is an intimate instrument. Consequently, though it is often used in smaller more compact atmospheres ,it is also not uncommon to use a microphone to further amplify the sound . Furthermore, it is very appealing for those who are not privileged to or who choose not to play with other musicians. Performing solo with an acoustic guitar is a unique form of music

Which is more convenient? Simply looking at the price, playing an acoustic is far more affordable than playing an electric guitar. Without purchasing the necessary accessories and an amplifier (which in most cases costs more than the guitar itself) purchasing an electric guitar is relatively pointless. Also, there are countless effects consoles which can be purchased, to create different moods; however quality products all need to be bought individually, for anywhere from sixty to two hundred dollars, depending on how technologically advanced the effect is. Where an average consoled guitar set up is just under a thousand dollars, a standard acoustic guitar only costs around three hundred dollars. Also, acoustic guitars are far more portable and allow for impromptu performances. In contrast, one person solely carrying a guitar and amplifier is burdensome and potentially damaging to the equipment.
