Hamlet Today

In the year 2002, the U.S. economy had another major blooming. Many successful new companies sprang up and were in the spotlight. However, the most distinctive business was the Smith Technology Fund and it had been pictured twice on the cover of Time magazine. The Fund had been known since the 1980s and it had invested in numerous small businesses to help them enter the market. Smith Technology Fund was also a family business which had passed down the CEO position from father to son.

In May of 2002 the news reported that the CEO of the company, Hamlet Smith, had died suddenly from snake poisoning while on a hunting vacation with the family. Without any words left behind for the first time the CEO position was passed to his brother, Claudius, with whom he worked closely. Although Hamlet II stayed closely involved with the Fund, he had more relationship issues with his uncle, mother, and girlfriend, then not getting the CEO position. Since Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude, married Claudius less than two months after the funeral, Hamlet had been angry at them. Because Hamlet honored and respected his father greatly, he felt that the marriage symbolized Gertrude’s betrayal and Claudius?deceit. Besides having issue

Laertes smiled to his father as he was accustomed to his elderly father’s constant warnings. He knew that Polonius just wanted him to do better than Hamlet II did. It was an ongoing competition between the two families. As he grabbed his leather business case and got into the limo, he reminded Ophelia again to remember his words. He worried for Ophelia but the more current issue would be his study in France. He trusted that Polonius would soon would find out about what he told Ophelia and warn her same. As expected, Polonius asked Ophelia for Laertes?words the second the limo left his gate. He talked to Ophelia and eventually forced her to distance herself from Hamlet. Meanwhile Laertes would pursue his studies and double his money from buying stock. Laertes?next trip back to the States Ophelia would have ended her relationship with Hamlet completely. The whole dimension of the Smith’s and the Albertstine’s competition would take on a different course.

“Regarding Hamlet, please ignore his interest in you. Treat his flirtation as no more than something that comes with nature. It may seem sincere and sweet now, but none of that is permanent. Just like the stock market, it may have a month of amazing growth, but soon it will fall. Bear in mind about his future; his will is not his own. When the business passes down to him, he needs to make decisions based on the welfare of the company, and you will no longer be his priority. He is young now and as his ambition and responsibilities grow, his love is going to change. So if he says he loves you, let your wisdom help you to know that
