The London Eye was designed by David Marks and Julia Barfield a pair of architects who first planned the attraction in 1993. The London Eye was chosen as the project to mark the Millennium in London. The concept of a wheel was an ideal symbol for London in the Millennium. As well as representing the turning of the century, a wheel is a universally recognised symbol of time and regeneration. Nowadays it is one of London's biggest attractions. Sweeping the London skyline at 135m (450ft) the British Airways London Eye is the world's highest Ferris wheel. The London Eye is suspended over the river on the south bank of the Thames in the Jubilee Gardens, in front of The London Magistrate it faces The Houses of Parliament.
