Scarlet Ibis

In "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst a character tell us " pride is a wonderful terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and death." Pride can be good and bad. Pride can show accomplishments and failures, it can show whatever you choose it to show. Like in the story, pride can also embarrass you and you"ll do anything to keep it from embarrassing you. .
In "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst, Brother has to pull Doodle around in a wooden go-kart. This is good in that Brother then teaches Doodle how to walk because he is ashamed of a little brother that can't walk. But its bad because Doodle being able to walk leads to more difficult activities like swimming, rowing a boat and climbing trees.
Doodle's body can't take the training of Brother, so it leads to him dying. .
Also in the short story "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst, Doodle shows the family that he can walk. This is good because the family is happy, and overwhelmed with excitement. Even though the family thanks Brother and they are excited for him, he cries. Brother cries because he knows that the only reason he taught Doodle to walk in the first place is because he was embarrassed that he had the only five year old brother that couldn't walk.
In "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst, the family stands outside and watches as a Scarlet Ibis dies on a tree outside on their lawn. When this bird dies, it affects the family but mostly it affects Doodle. Doodle takes this matter seriously and gets called inside to eat, then leaves to dig a grave for the bird. When I was young I found a lizard on my front porch, I took it into the house to care for it. Of course I didn't know how to tend for it, so soon it died. When the lizard died I didn't tell anybody, so I wouldn't get into trouble for keeping it. I went to the back lawn and dug a grave for it I said some words and put some flowers then left it to be. When Doodle digs the grave for the bird, it reminds me of when I buried that lizard.
