College, Is It For Everyone?

Ever since, I was a child, the below types of advertisements have haunted my eyes and ears:

HALLWAY AND YOU CAN NOT FIND AN EXIT, BECAUSE NONE OF THE DOORS

WILL OPEN FOR YOU? WELL THEN, LET US GIVE YOU THE KEYS! GIVE US A

Although this advertisement is only five minutes long, it foreshadows five years of a person’s life. In this commercial, the student is always happy and partying for the first two minutes, then you see about a minute in the classroom, a minute of graduation and finally, we see our proud graduate go and get their first job, before the boss even asks their name. Instant success story! Is college the only way to become successful in today’s society?

The illusive dream of benefits which a college degree can bring a person is often beyond the experience of an average graduate. The average graduate in fact does not experience the total bliss of the dream, instead they get trapped into a state of total stress. This stress comes from financial burden, commuting, and time management issues.

Many people use hard work as their success plan, by opening up businesses, such as Sam Walton did with Walmart or they may develop an idea such as Bill Gates did with Microsoft. These types of ventures can also give a person the ultimate position of success by landing a position of top ten most powerful in the world, like they did for Walton and Gates.

Time management can also create problems, for the student. Students must fit sleep, study, work and classes into a tight schedule. This often leads them to numerous and expensive trips to their physician; since they are often so deprived of meals and sleep. Depending on the level of the student’s schedule and how the student copes with his or her hectic schedule and all other factors that affect the program, an onset of stress is often expected.
