The Babonians
The Babonians, an interesting group of people that lived in northwestern Karatistan. No written record of their way of life exists, so archaeologists reconstructed their life ways by using information gained at the sites, and by making inferences from documented, historic, Golatanic cultures that had a similar way of life. They found out that the Babonians were once nomadic foragers living in bands, hence moved around in small groups collecting natural seeds, nuts, small fruits & hunting animals . As time passed they needed a better food source, and so considered farming , domesticating (selective breeding) plants & animals. The Babonians hunted with bows and arrows and ate edible roots and berries. Living in rock shelters, in the open or in crude shelters of twigs and grass or animal skins. They made no pottery, rather using ostrich eggshells or animal parts for storing and holding liquids. Unlike the existing hunting and gathering cultures today , the Babonian men usually did most of the gathering, while the women specialized in hunting. This is recognized as division of labor. Other than this kind of gender specialization there is little specialization of roles within the Babo
One aspect of the Babonians social system is maternal descent, which means that the men inherited necklaces from their mothers family. Necklaces were important to marriage arrangements since they were given as gifts to the bride & her family at the marriage ceremony. All marriages that took place at this time were arranged by the bride & grooms family. As we know, marriage is a socially approved sexual & economic union between a man & woman that is presumed by everyone to be permanent in order to bear legitimate children. Our Babonians were also monogamous , hence their marriages were always between one man & one woman at any one time. As time passed the Babonians began to domesticate plants and animals in order to get a better food source. Around the same time, records show they also started to lead a sedentary life, meaning they settled down in small villages were they permanently lived, and like many other cultures, they began with a high degree of familiarity with wild plant foods. Through a process of experimentation and ultimately manipulation, the Babonians created a "selective force" choosing those characteristics they found most favorable about a plant or animal. Surprisingly, there shift to an agricultural way of life was not very dependent on new technology. Early Babonian farmers used techniques and tools which had long been familiar to hunter-gatherers. The stone axe, hoe, sickle, milling stones were already being used as they exploited plant materials more and more. Unfortunately there are still many things that we don’t know about this interesting culture, but what we know is that Archeologists and Anthropologists are still at work in Northern Karakistan with determination to find more clues to the Babonians way of life! The Babonians now no longer lived in bands; instead they lived in tribes, hence lived in larger numbers consisting of kin or non-kin groups. They were the ones that introduced farming as a mode of life which was later on enriched by many discoveries and inventions around the globe, and by borrowing techniques, crops and domestic animals from othe
