King Lear’s fear of neglect is evident throughout the book but is shown to its full extent at the beginning. As the story starts, he wishes to hear how much his daughters love him and offer to give them land for their kind words. He is stated saying

Which of you shall we say doth love us most?

That we our largest bounty may extend

Where nature doth with merit challenge.

This shows that he truly doesn’t know which of his daughters love him. He needs to persuade his daughters to he

This was his single greatest mistake within the story for because of this, the daughters who sway him with words would get his castles and state while the youngest daughter, who truly loves him becomes disowned for she did not have the words to show how she really feels. King Lear’s fear of neglect by his daughters causes him to drastically give awards to ones with the highest and most loving of words. His fear that he will be unwanted made him to forcefully tell his daughters to tell him how much he is a perfect example that fear causes the most far reaching of errors because the daughters with the most loving of words, had the worst of intentions.
