The matrix within out culture

The Matrix takes place in the year 2149, and is about the human race becoming so technologically advanced that they have developed robots that overtook the earth and they now harvest humans for energy. To keep the humans under control the robots created a computer system called the Matrix. The Matrix is basically an artificial creation of the real world before it was destroyed. A resistance of the remaining humans outside the control of the matrix is lead by Morpheus. Morpheus is looking for “the chosen one”, Neo, the one person that can free all the humans from the Matrix and the control of the robots to restore peace.

Throughout “The Matrix” there are numerous cultural values of religion and race. The main characters, Neo, Morpheus, Trinity and the agents each represent a certain value or belief. This is another cultural value that is stated through “The Matrix”. This is displayed through the movie’s story itself, in which humans relied on technology so much that the dependence of human on machines to perform tasks for them to survive was reversed. The machines took over the humans, and survived by using them as a source of energy. This could be the way that the writers are trying to get a warning across to the audience that technology is starting to control American society, how Americans act, and what they do.

Another value that is shown in this film, is the role that is played by women in our society. The main female character, Trinity, represents the role that women play in today’s society as an independent woman. This movie shows that Trinity is tough enough to be mentally and physically equal with the men in the story and sometimes even tougher than some of t
